The Compost Facility Labourer Co-Op Student will aid in the production of a soil amendment that improves soil structure and fertility. The facility produces class A compost through the recycling of yard waste. This compost can be used in farming, agriculture, reclamation, or landscaping to name a few applications. The Compost Facility Labourer will be aiding with the production of compost and maintenance of the facility, as required under the Environmental Management Act and Organic Matter Recycling Regulation.

 

We are looking for a Compost Facility Labourer Co-Op Student to join the Arrow Environmental (NutriGrow) team for the summer.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Project Coordinator, the Cinnamon Ridge Compost Labourer is responsible for assisting in the daily operations of a compost facility and/or transfer station. The Co-op Student will assist in performing a variety of manual labour tasks such as yard maintenance (i.e mowing lawns, weed whacking, garbage pick up), providing information of products and taking payments from the public, directing traffic on site as needed, maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the facility and other tasks as assigned. This individual will also assist with customer service, soil sampling and ensuring environmental compliances are adhered to.

  • Monitoring the flow of various incoming/outgoing material for proper operation.
  • Communicate with the public/drivers regarding unloading locations predetermined by the Project Coordinator.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of trucks and containers.
  • Provide internal and external Customer Service excellence.
  • Process payments for the purchase of goods.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the facility by sweeping, shoveling, mowing, and removing debris as necessary.
  • Support the completion of necessary paperwork and recordkeeping associated with daily operations.
  • Monitor and report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the coordinator.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist with environmental compliance protocols.
  • May be asked to travel to other facilities if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Project Coordinator.

You Possess

As per the Trucking HR Student Work Placement Program Subisdy, the Co-Op candidate must meet the following Eligibility Criteria:

  • Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person granted refugee status in Canada
  • Currently Enrolled in part-time or full-time in a post-secondary institution
  • Work placement must be part of student's academic program and relevant to their studies

Requirements  

  • Relevant post-secondary courses, diploma or degree.
  • Class 5 or 7N
  • Previous experience working in an industrial setting is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance is an asset.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Strong safety mindset.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Quality oriented with a strong attention to detail.
  • Responsible, accountable, and dependable.
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
