Responsibilities

Reporting to our Executive Vice President and having oversight over 14 Shops, the Director of Maintenance and Fleet Procurement/Optimization is responsible for the planning, development and execution of strategic plans as they relate to the financial and operational optimization of capital acquisitions and our maintenance facilities and programs. This includes but is not limited to oversight of preventative and demand maintenance, optimization of the quality and utilization of fleet and mobile assets, improvement of overall asset productivity and uptime, reduction of overall maintenance costs, and oversight of a safe, environmentally sound and cost-effective capital acquisition program. This role will work to ensure acquisition and maintenance programs provide the best possible outcome as it relates to financial, safety, environmental and human resources goals and mandates.

 

Procurement & Asset Management:

  • Establish, oversee and optimize the strategic management of physical assets (mainly fleet and facilities) of the company, including procurement, replacement and disposal
  • Assess divisional vehicles for replacement
  • Optimize the use of the fleet throughout the lifecycle
  • Establish service standards, policies and procedures
  • Negotiate equipment/parts/fluids/tools/services/warranty with vendors & manufacturers
  • Develop and maintain strong dealer, vendor and contractor relationships and conduct visits/reviews

 

Maintenance:

  • Ensure maintenance of Company vehicles in accordance with established standards and policies
  • Ensure the safety, availability and reliability of the fleet
  • Control maintenance costs
  • Review maintenance schedules
  • Obtain estimates, issue work orders, purchase orders or insurance work orders
  • Coordinate all shop maintenance outsourcing and outside garage work

Financial:

  • Collect, analyze, and present key performance indicators related to fleet services to management and operations
  • Ensure inventory management is tracked and optimized
  • Responsible for Fleet Services’ budgets and actual results
  • Provides a long-term view of vehicle replacement capital expenditures and vehicle operational expenditures according to fleet projections.

Environment and Safety:

  • Responsible for ensuring fleet equipment in a condition that exceeds safety and environmental compliance.
  • Coordinates efforts with Safety department to aid in training of fleet equipment, conducting associate observations and up-dating preferred work methods. 
  • Ensures occupational hazards and safety precautions compliance of all fleet vehicles.

Leadership:

  • Accountable for all purchasing and maintenance team members at Kamloops Operations Headquarters and Maintenance Shops located throughout the Arrow Group of Companies.
  • Other duties as assigned

You Possess

  • University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field of study.
  • Commercial Transport Mechanic or Heavy Duty Mechanic certification.
  • 5-7 years of successful experience in a similar role.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in both a purchasing and management role.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating purchasing and maintenance policy, process and strategy.
  • Knowledge of applicable provincial laws, ordinances, statutes, regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management and demonstrated ability to establish priorities and to plan.
  • Strong action management skills including ability to manage project in the most cost efficient manner.
  • Strong writing skills for creating reports, correspondence, contracts, requests, bids, and other documentation.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ability to quickly learn new computer applications i.e. Arrow custom applications i.e. TMT
  • High level of ethics and integrity and ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.
  • Strong organizational and financial skills.
  • Ability to thrive in challenging conditions and accept the challenge of working in continually changing internal and external business conditions.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners.
  • Strong safety mindset.
