Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and self-sufficient Red Seal Marine Electrician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently, demonstrating strong problem-solving abilities, and possessing extensive experience in marine electrical systems. This role involves various duties including hooking up shore power for vessels, performing lock out tag out procedures, conducting megger/insulation tests, upgrading yard infrastructure, maintaining marine electrical systems, and handling the removal and installation of engines for electronic systems.

 

  • Safely and efficiently hook up shore power for various types of vessels
  • Ensure proper voltage and power requirements are met for each vessel
  • Implement Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures to deenergize vessels for maintenance and repair
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations during de-energization
  • Conduct megger/insulation tests to assess the condition of electrical systems on vessels
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues using advanced testing equipment
  • Participate in upgrading and maintaining the electrical infrastructure of the shipyard
  • Install new electrical systems and components as required
  • Perform regular maintenance on marine electrical systems to ensure optimal performance
  • Repair and replace faulty electrical components and wiring
  • Assist in the removal and installation of engines, focusing on the electronic systems
  • Ensure all electronic components are properly installed and functioning
  • Remove and install fire systems and bilge pumps
  • Temporarily remove interference items for other jobs as required
  • Ensure that removed items are properly stored and documented
  • Reinstall interference items after a month or as specified
  • May be asked to cross train on other/all functions at facility
  • Other assigned work as required

You Possess

  • Interprovincial Red Seal Electrician certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of marine experience 
  • Must speak, read, and write in English
  • Must pass physical to ensure bonafide job requirements can be fulfilled
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment and components (up to 50lbs)
  • Capable of working in confined spaces and at heights
  • Able to work well under pressure. 
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and be self-sufficient in a busy environment
