The Stewart Mining Division primarily specializes in serving key customers by hauling Copper Ore from various minesites to the Port of Stewart to load onto vessels for furtherence  overseas. Approximately 45 professional truck drivers report into the Stewart Division and equipment is serviced by an onsite shop. You will be supported by a Division Manager,  Operations Supervisors, Administrator and Shop Foreman as well as the many Arrow employees that provide other support services across the company.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Regional Manager of Mining & Aggregates, the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Coordinator’s ensures a safe and compliant work environment for employees and drivers by implementing and maintaining health, safety, and environmental standards. This role is critical in minimizing risks, enhancing safety culture, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations in the trucking industry. This position will work closely with both corporate HSE team and the branch operations team.

 

Major Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, including WorkSafeBC, DOT, and other relevant standards.
  • Ensure adherence to Arrow's safety policies, procedures, and protocols across all terminals and fleet operations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records and documentation.
  • Develop and deliver safety training programs, including onboarding sessions, defensive driving, and hazardous material handling.
  • Conduct regular toolbox talks, safety meetings, and refresher training sessions.
  • Keep track of certifications for all employees, ensuring they remain current.
  • Respond promptly to accidents, injuries, and near-miss incidents.
  • Lead investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders as required.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, site inspections, and risk evaluations.
  • Identify potential safety and environmental risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with fleet and maintenance teams to ensure vehicle safety standards are met.
  • Monitor environmental compliance, including fuel storage, spill management, and waste disposal practices.
  • Promote sustainable practices within the trucking division.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of safety management systems tailored to the trucking industry.
  • Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
  • Evaluate and update emergency response plans as needed.
  • Conduct regular audits of safety practices, equipment, and facilities.
  • Track and analyze safety performance metrics, presenting findings and recommendations to management.
  • Submit required reports to regulatory agencies in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide internal and external customer service excellence.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

You Possess

  • Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years in an HSE role, ideally within the transportation, logistics or mining sectors
  • Certified in WHMIS, First Aid and CPR
  • Strong knowledge of federal and provincial safety and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of the National Safety Code preferred
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office programs and safety management software
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrates strong communication skills both verbally and written
  • Strong leadership and training abilities
  • Strong safety mindset with a commitment to HSE compliance
  • Excellent work ethic and positive team attitude

 Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based with frequent travel to worksites and field inspections
