Overview

The Portable Wood Processing Division (PWP) specializes in grinding wood material into a product that can be used for energy production. This division has base locations in Kamloops and Fort St. James. This position is based in Fort St. James.

 

Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Operations Supervisor role is to assist in the planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of the grinding program. It is the Operations Supervisor’s role to oversee and supervise the resources necessary (people and equipment) to accomplish the objectives of Arrow and our customers effectively and safely. 

 

The position would also involve operating equipment as required when all unionized personnel are being utilized. This will occur in winter months, when an additional hand is needed or due to vacation or illness.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Division Manager, the Operations Supervisor role is to assist in the planning, organization, coordination and implementation of short and long-term operational goals, policies and procedures. In particular, it is the Operations Supervisor’s role is to oversee and supervise the resources necessary (people and equipment) to meet customer commitments, maintenance commitments, while ensuring a safe, productive, compliant and cost efficient operation. The position would also involve operating equipment as required which will typically occur in winter months, when others are on vacation or ill and/or when an additional hand is needed.   

 

You will work approximately 50% in the field and 50% in the office. 

 

Major Responsibilities 

  • Ensuring all activities are conducted in a safe manner in adherence to Arrow’s Safety Management System.
  • Coordinate and manage the grinding plan and associated moves.
  • Support and manage the grinder and personnel. This includes a large variety of activities from ensuring the next site is ready to running parts or helping with a repair.
  • Manage and support the supplementary equipment (graders, excavator, loader…) and personnel.
  • Manage and support the Lead Hand and drivers and associated trucks and trailers.
  • Manage and support the Mobile Mechanic.
  • Ensures the drivers and operators have the proper instructions to perform their duties safely and listen to concerns and suggestions and acts on them appropriately.
  • Schedules and coordinates required driver training and orientation.
  • Assists in the development, change to or implementation of policy and process improvement.
  • Coordinate with PWP employees and shop personnel in regarding repairs and preventative maintenance schedules and timelines.
  • Responsible for working with Administrator to ensure on board entries and driver paperwork is complete, accurate and timely.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Division Manager.

 

You Possess

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the forest industry as an equipment operator or supervisor.
  • Preference will be given to those with Post Secondary Education and or experience working in a related field. 
  • Experience with forestry equipment.
  • Proven effective supervisory experience.
  • Strong safety proclivity/safety oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Team orientated.
  • Flexiblility on work hours.
  • Computer experience an asset– Microsoft Excel, email.
  • Mechanical aptitude an asset.
